Morning Tourist

As much as I complain and hate working on Saturdays when it seems like the rest of HK is having fun, it is nice to have a day off during the week.  I have Thursdays (and Sundays) off, and it’s a great time to be a tourist!  So, last Thursday morning I slung my DSLR across my chest and headed out.  Most of the pictures are based around the water and boats, which has become a part of our daily life since moving to Lamma Island.

We see this view of Lantau Island (or a variation of it depending on the weather) every day when we leave Lamma. It never gets old. Container ships are constantly loading and unloading throughout the waters of Hong Kong. The Lamma ferry cuts right through the busiest of it, often diverting its course to get out of the way. Container ships rule the sea! Even though I pass them everyday, I am still impressed by their size and power. Whenever I see little fishing boats like this, I can't help but wonder what the fisherman are thinking when they are rough waves or next to a massive container ship. "Ah, shit. I think we got in a little over our heads boys, but can't do anything about it now. If we don't make it, it was nice knowing you." Star Ferry sailor, watching the boat leave the pier. Aboard the Star Ferry, the longest running ferry in Hong Kong. Costing about $.25 USD a trip across the harbor. The Star Ferry pier on the Kowloon side. Taken from the Kowloon side of the harbor looking at the Hong Kong side. There are a few of these gimmicky, tourist boats that give tours around Hong Kong. No editing has been done to this photo-the colors really are that bright. Massive cruise ship! Comin' through! Make way people! The Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower, built in 1915. The railway station has since moved and this tower is the only thing remaining. I will devote an entire post to it. Street art? Advertisement? I think it might be both, but I'm curious what store is behind the door. Taken in TST, Kowloon. I took this picture of Thursday last week on the beach on Lamma. The rain went right over us.
